Management of your Personal Health Information

Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff.

Test Results

Generally your blood results will take a few days to process: swabs and smears may take longer.

If your results are normal, we will not contact you

However, if you wish to check, you may phone our nurse during the middle of the day when they are not so busy.

It is important to update your current contact details in case we need to contact you regarding abnormal results.

Some test results will not be given out over the phones (e.g. HIV). You will need to physically come in to speak to a nurse as we need to identify you.

Please note that under the Privacy Act, we can only give results to the patient (16 years and over) unless prior consent has been obtained from the patient.

Interpreting Service

We have an interpreting service available, for all our patients, in a broad range of languages. Please inform the receptionist at the time of booking the appointment if this is required. Information regarding the service is available on request from reception.

Repeat Prescription

We aim to provide optimal medical care to all our patients. It is our policy to review patients on regular medications every 3 months depending on the prescription and stability of condition. If you have an unstable medical condition, you may be asked to attend more frequently than this.

There are also certain drugs which a doctor will request to see you, these include antibiotics and sedatives/sleeping pills.

Our doctors will document in your medical notes if they are happy to prescribe a repeat prescription for a regular medication that you have discussed without seeing you.

Please allow 24 hours for us to process your repeat prescription, and be aware that a charge applies for this service.

Why is there a charge for repeat prescriptions?

Processing repeat prescription requires the medical practitioner to review your notes to ensure that the prescription is still appropriate. They must also make sure that, if required, you have relevant blood tests and that there are no other reasons why you should not take the medication.

Processing a repeat prescription is not just a case of signing a prescription.

Doctors must review your notes and ensure that the prescription is still appropriate. They must also make sure that you have relevant blood tests if needed, do not have any interacting drugs, and that there are no other reasons why you should not take the medication.

This is important for your safety and also for medico legal reasons.

All os these things take time and cannot be done by any other member of your healthcare team.
